Avonette Blanding, CPA is the Chief Financial Officer and a Vice President of Maritime Applied Physics Corporation (MAPC), an engineering firm located in Baltimore, Maryland. She has held various Executive Officer positions during her 20 year accounting career and has developed experience in operational accounting, internal audit, public accounting and government contracting. Avonette is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), a professional organization serving the needs Maryland CPAs. She serves on the MACPA Board of Directors and is a member of Towson University’s Accounting Advisory Board. She is also a member of the MACPA’s Government Contractors’ Committee and the Local Advisory Committee for Baltimore City Public Schools’ Office of Career and Technology Education. Avonette is an active volunteer. As a guest speaker, she supports the MACPA Career Awareness Program by promoting the accounting profession to high school students throughout Baltimore City. Her love for budgeting and financial literacy led her to become an Operation Hope Banking on Our Future (BOOF) volunteer and teach financial literacy to students in grades 4 through 12. She has also served as a judge during student competitions sponsored by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She was selected by The Daily Record to receive the 2014 Leading Women award, which honors women who are 40 years of age or younger for the accomplishments they have made in their careers. Honorees are selected based on their professional experience, community involvement and commitment to inspiring change. Avonette is a native Baltimorean, educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools system. She earned her B.S. in Accounting from Towson (State) University and holds an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. She currently resides in Baltimore City with her husband and two daughters.
