Safiyah Cheatam

Safiyah Cheatam is a local filmmaker completing her Bachelors degree in Electronic Media and Film at Towson University. As a Black Muslim woman, she addresses issues such as religion, self-awareness, and racial injustice in her work. She has spent the past 4 years as a teacher’s aide at Govan’s Elementary School where she individually mentors in reading and writing proficiency to under-performing students. Safiyah has been involved with Wide Angle for a year, previously as an Traveling Photography Exhibit volunteer and currently as a Design Team assistant instructor. She hopes continue in the field of arts and community outreach by becoming involved with museum administration in the Baltimore-DMV area.
