THE UNSUNG HEROES: MY FATHER & MARK DEAN
Hello everyone, my name is Tony. I'm in 9th grade and this is my first year at Wide Angle. I was enrolled in the Moving Image course where we learned how to make music videos and short films from Wide Angle Producer & Programs Specialist, Mr. Mace Lester. Before I learned about Wide Angle, I was editing montages for friends of mine then eventually friends of friends and friends of their friends. So when my mom found Wide Angle I instantly hopped on it. Through the Wide Angle programs I've learned further in depth about making short films and music videos.
Interview with My Dad
Mr. Mace gave us an interview assignment. While I was making this video I learned more about B-Roll and cinematics and the overall process of interviewing. When I made this video, I had a fun time filming my dad and getting to know him more. I enjoyed editing and gathering the footage for this interview. I decided to do this video because I really wanted to learn more about my family’s history. It was interesting to learn what my father was like when he was my age. He answered questions such as who he went to for advice and the types of things he did for entertainment. Lastly, I would like to say the most challenging part of making this video was definitely getting the final project out on time. Meeting the deadline was challenging because the editing process took longer than I expected since I decided to use additional effects such as lens blur.
Mark Dean
In my second project, Mr. Mace gave us the option to make a video on an African American figure we don't often hear about for Black History month. I decided to make a video on Mark Dean the co-inventor of the personal computer because he’s not often heard about in Black history or history for that matter. In making this video I learned a lot while researching Mark Dean, such as how he made the first colored monitor and made the first processor chip. I chose to make this video about Mark Dean because although personal computers are a part of our daily lives, Mr. Dean’s role in this invention is not well known. The most challenging part about making this video was definitely finding information about Mark Dean because he is one of the unsung heroes of technology. Unlike Martin Luther King or Harriet Tubman where many books, articles, and movies have been written or made about them, sometimes people in history go without recognition.
